This site has been developed with new technologies that are in place to ensure it is accessible to a greater audience, including users who may have a visual, mental or physical impairment.
Blind users can navigate this site using the keyboard. Each navigation has a tab index which will set the order of precedence in navigation and links with in the content. The listenability has been tested with various text to speech readers and has been validated with IBM aDesigner. Low vision users are able to resize the font to their preferences either by changing the font size in the browser or toggling through the increase / decrease font options at the top right of the page.
Low-bandwidth users has also been considered in the design and development process. The site can be easily navigated and is recognisable when images are switch off on the browser and care has been taken to ensure all files are correctly optimised. GZ compression is used to compress every page on this site which will reduce HTML file sizes by approximately 30%.
Although every effort has been made to ensure the site is not dependent upon the use of JavaScript and Flash, some elements can not be made accessible, particularly the booking facility. The booking form is sent to a third party site which processes the booking, which is unable to operate without the use of JavaScript.
The W3 Consortium (W3C) has set guidelines and standards which this site has adopted. This site adheres and validates to the following:
