Airnorth upgrades services to Timor-Leste

Michael Bridge, Chief Executive Officer of Airnorth, today announced that air services between Darwin and Dili, Timor-Leste will be upgraded from 12 January 2009.

‘Timor-Leste is an integral part of the Airnorth network. Airnorth has supported the new nation for more than ten years, even through the most challenging of environments, with the continuous provision of services. We are always looking for ways to improve those services, Mr Bridge said.

‘The addition of the 76 seat Embraer E170 jet to our fleet in 2007 and the cessation of Bali services has provided the opportunity for Airnorth to upgrade its services in the region. In recognition of the importance of regular air services to Timor-Leste, we have given priority to increasing the capacity on the Darwin-Dili route. Last December, regular weekly jet services were introduced and this is now being expanded to five jet flights a week.’

From 12 January 2009, the jet will provide a direct connection between Darwin and Dill on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, significantly increasing the number of seats available for business, family reunions and tourism.

‘Not only will this new service deliver greater comfort and shorter flying times, it will also provide greater convenience as the jet is able to fly in all weather without requiring baggage to be off-loaded. This service will give more certainty to business travellers and the greater number of seats will increase the potential for tourism to Timor-Leste,’ Mr Bridge said.

Mr Bridge said that Airnorth is also working with Frangipani Holidays to develop a range of competitive flight and accommodation packages to enable tourists to visit Timor-Leste to experience the beautiful beaches, incredible scenery and best of all, meet the friendly people of this fast-emerging nation.
